NameCheap Review 2016 – What is

is namecheap good

Overall Ranking: 8/10
Name: NameCheap
Price: Starting at $3.95
Owner(s): Richard Kirkendall

NameCheap Overview

Namecheap was founded in 2000 by a man named Richard Kirkendall. Namecheap has won awards from Lifehacker for the best domain registrar and even the most popular domain name registrar. It is an ICANN-accredited registrar company and is the owner of 3,000,000 domains. If you are not sure what ICANN is, it is a “Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers” in control of preserving internet stability. They also contain other services like hosting and Whoisgaurd.

The Good & The Bad

The domains are cheap and probably the best price that you will find online. The service is awesome; they have an instant messaging customer service reps that are willing and ready to help at all times.

what is namecheap

If you would like to host your site at another location; they have great transfer services. This makes it easy to have your site under protection from Whoisgaurd and have it hosted wherever you would like.

What is Whoisgaurd? I should probably explain since I brought it up a couple times already. This service helps protect your identity when you register for a domain.

what is whoisgaurd

When you register a domain with, you will receive a full year of Whoisgaurd for free! Every year after that is only $2.88/year.

I have mentioned Bluehost in my reviews before and I do approve of the product that they offer, but they charge $11.00/year for Whoisgaurd.

Namecheap has an option where you can auto renew your domain name. This helps to protect yourself against domain poachers. After investing so much effort into your domain over the year to build up traffic. If you don’t renew your website, someone could buy it.

The reason why I gave it a 8/10 and not a 10/10. I haven’t found any necessarily “bad” aspects about the domain service. The only thing would be that although they do have 3,000,000 domains; it may not contain a certain domain that you want and another domain service has.

Customer Support

As I have said earlier, they have a very active instant messaging customer service. Also there is a live community with live chat and video tutorials.

Who is Namecheap for?

Namecheap is great for anyone that wants a new domain or anyone that wants to renew their domain. If your domain is registered with another domain service, check with Namecheap first to see if you can renew it for less. It will also add in the free Whoisgaurd service when you renew.

Namecheap Price

Domain prices start at $3.95 and there are sales which allow you to get them for less.

Namecheap is one of the best domain registrars out there. The prices are perfect for someone that is just starting up and wants to save money on expenses. The free year of Whoisgaurd is an added bonus that cannot be found anywhere else.

I personally have purchased all my domains from Namecheap, two .com domains and one .xyz domain. I love their cheap prices, and the xyz domain was only one dollar for the first year! They also offer other domains like .website that other domain registration companies don’t have.

With that being said, I don’t host my websites there, even though their hosting starts at around 89 cents a month. This is mainly because they don’t have an easy WordPress option (you have to install it yourself) and also because they don’t have a phone support service. Besides, it’s not a good idea to host your domains at the same place where you bought them, because if something goes wrong, they can block you from your website forever.

That’s a good call Ben, thanks for the tip. I have been hosting my website using Wealthy Affiliate so I haven’t run into any problems yet. I’ts great because I don’t have to pay any extra hosting fees, it’s included in the membership. What do you use to host your domains?

Namecheap is so far the only domain name registrar that I use. I’ve used them for the last three years and I’ve had no complain whatsoever.

I have one other domain godaddy which I purchased from flippa, and am yet to transfer it to namecheap.

    Thanks for your great review.

This looks like a great choice for a place to go to buy a domain name.

In the past I used another provider and to be honest I was not too thrilled. I did have some problems but the customer support was not up to scratch and it took time to resolve.

I can see here that the customer support is there so this is attractive for me.

I know what you mean though when you say lots of domain names are already taken and it can be a bit of a struggle choosing one to suite.

Does it give good alternatives when the one you are trying is already being used?
